Information Technology and Planning

Information Technology and Planning is responsible for maintaining a 1-Gigabit Ethernet network connected to the campus backbone for six libraries with over 500 PCs for Library staff and Library users. An 11-Mbps wireless network has just been installed in the Main Library and will eventually be extended to the branch libraries. About 65 servers are housed in a modern 24-hour temperature control computer room of more than 150m2. We manage the Library Integrated System, INNOPAC, and DAO-Digital Access Online which includes over 20,000 electronic resources and e-journals subscribed to by the Library and a number of databases developed inhouse. We also maintain a Technical Help Desk during normal office hours so that phone calls can be answered immediately. Alternatively, users can send in their questions by email. A smart card system with an electronic purse has been introduced to the turnstiles at the entrance of the libraries, at public PC login, and for photocopying and network print charging.
