The American Studies Resource Library (ASL) was originally part of the American Library run by the former United States Information Service in Hong Kong and was transferred to the Hong Kong-America Center at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1993. It is administrated by the University Library System of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
The Library was moved from the lower ground floor of the University Library to the ground floor of the United College Wu Chung Library in September 1995. In the summer of 2001, with the re-establishment of the Wu Chung Library as the United College Wu Chung Multimedia Library, the ASL was relocated to the 2/F of the Library to facilitate a better use of the Collection.

With further donations arranged by the U.S. Consulate General, ASL now boasts to be one of the finest collections on American studies in Asia.
ASL is open to public during regular library opening hours. In order to check out materials in the Collections, non-CUHK users need to apply for library cards. For CUHK members, they may use library cards of the University Library System.

The Collections
The current holdings include more than 10,100 titles of books from several donations over the years:
- Faulkner Collection
A unique collection consists of around 900 items relating to Nobel Prize-winning novelist, William Faulkner and his works, and other Southern American writers. It includes first-edition copies of Faulkner's novels and several booklets hand-lettered by him in the 1920's period. In 1994, the collection was donated by Professor James B. Meriwether of the University of South Carolina, a Fulbright scholar who dedicated much of his life to the study of the great American novelist.
