RefWorks: Campus-wide Bibliographic Management Tool


RefWorks is a web-based bibliography and database manager that allows users to:
  • Import citations directly from most databases available through the Library website as well as the Library Catalogue.
  • Generate a bibliography or reference list in a variety of citation styles, including APA, MLA, and Chicago.
  • Format in-text citations or footnotes in seconds.
  • Create bibliographies in different document formats such as Word, RTF, HTML, etc.
  • Organize and create your own personal database.
Connect to RefWorks

Users need to sign up for an individual account the first time they use RefWorks. To create an account or to login, go to:

    To set up a new account:
    1. Click on Sign up for an Individual Account at the login screen.
    2. Enter the required information, including a Login Name and Password. It is recommended that you DO NOT use your Library Password for security reasons. Please assign another password of your choice.
    3. Click on Register.

How to export citations from databases to RefWorks

Write-N-Cite

    Write-N-Cite is a RefWorks utility program that facilities formatting in-text citations.

    Click here to download the Write-N-Cite utility program on your computer.

    If you are using Write-N-Cite from off-campus, you must load the WNC Proxy Configuration Utility:

      Windows Users:
      1. From the Start Menu, select Programs and RefWorks.
      2. Select the WNC Proxy Configuration Utility.
      3. In the Proxy Server URL input box, enter:
        http://easyaccess.lib.cuhk.edu.hk/login?url=https://www.refworks.com/Refworks/?WNC=true
      4. Click OK.

     

      Mac Users
      1. Activate Write-N-Cite.
      2. Select Preferences from the Write-N-Cite menu.
      3. Select the Proxy option and enter:
        http://easyaccess.lib.cuhk.edu.hk/login?url=https://www.refworks.com/Refworks/?WNC=true
      4. Restart Write-N-Cite.

    If you would like to change the interface language of Write-N-Cite, you have to change the language setting of your web browser before running Write-N-Cite.
    For example, you use Internet Explorer and English is the preferred interface language of Write-N-Cite. Please:

    1. Run Internet Explorer.
    2. From the Tools pull down menu, select Internet Options.
    3. Click on the button Languages.
    4. If the list of languages does not contain English, click on the Add ... button to add it.
    5. Select the preferred language.
    6. Click the Move Up button to move the highlighted language up to the top of the list.
    7. Click OK
    8. Restart Write-N-Cite.
