| **A new version of the client software
for Windows and Mac (updated on Aug, 2007) must be installed for using the
database. Please follow the instructions to install
the software again. |
First time user please refer to the following sections on the Requirement
for Windows or Mac OS Χ
.
Users who have installed the appropriate client software please click the
SciFinder application icon on their computers to access the database.
Requirements & Installation of client software for Windows
- Requirements
- PC with at least a 450 MHz Pentium-class or equivalent processor
- Microsoft Windows 2000 (SP3 or higher), XP(SP1 or SP2), or Vista
- Minimum of 256 MB RAM (memory)
- 50 MB or more available disk space, not including pagefile memory; 90
MB for installation
- connection to CAS via the Internet
- pre-installed client software for windows platform
- WebLab ViewerLite (optional - this is used
for viewing 3D structure models)
- Monitor: SVGA color monitor compatible with Windows
- Printer: a high-quality graphics printer, e.g., laser or inkjet, is
recommended
- Web Browser: Netscape Communicator Version or higher or Internet Explorer
V5 or higher, or Mozilla Firefox Version 1.0 or higher
- Installation of client software for Windows
- Click here to download the self-extractable
file, sfs2007.exe
- Double-click the self-extractable file sfs2007.exe.
- Click the "OK" button on the WinZip Self-Extractor dialog
box. The installation process will start automatically.
- A DOS windows may be opened by the process. Please DO
NOT close it until the installation process is completed.
- Click the "Next" button to start the installation or
"Cancel" to stop.
- Click the "Next" button to install SciFinder Scholar
to the default destination folder C:\SFSCHLR.
*Please DO NOT change the default destination or
the client will not be installed successfully.
- If you have the software installed before, a dialog "Another version
of SciFinder Scholar exists in the directory" will appear. Click "YES"
to overwrite the original copy.
- Click the "Next" button to install with Typical
setup type.
- Click "NO" when being asked Do
you have a disk labeled Custom Site Files.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
- To access, double-click the SciFinder Scholar application in the SciFinder
Scholar folder.
- The database will timeout (i.e. disconnect) after ten minutes of inactivity.
** The folder for SciFinder Scholar 2006 will contain the shortcuts to
the SciFinder Scholar Readme File, SciFinder Scholar User Guide, SciFinder
Scholar & Uninstall SciFinder Scholar.
- Installation of WebLab ViewerLite to view 3d structure
- Click here
to download the file viewerlite.exe
- Open Windows Explorer. Double-click the file viewerlite.exe.
- Click the Setup button.
- Follow the on-screen instruction to complete the installation. (It has
to be installed in folder C:\Program Files\WLViewerLite37)
- Re-start the computer.
Requirements & installation of client software of MacIntosh
- Requirement
- Mac OS Χ operating system
- 32 MB RAM or higher recommended
- Hard disk with 65MB or more available disk space
- connection to CAS via the Internet
- pre-installed client software for Mac
- Monitor: Colour monitor capable of displaying 256 colours
- Printer: a high-quality graphics printer, e.g., laser or inkjet, is
recommended
- Web Browser: Netscape Communicator Version 4 or higher, Safari (OS x
Default) or Mac OS x compatible version of Netscape, Mozilla Firefox,
or Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE)
- Installation of Client Software for Mac OS Χ
- Click here to download the 14MB
self-extractable file, sfs2007.dmg
- Use a decompression program, such as "Stuffit Expander" to expand the
file.
- To access SciFinder Scholar 2007,
- Double-click the "SciFinder Scholar" folder where files are expanded
to.
- Double-click the "SciFinder Scholar" application.
