The CUHK ILLiad is a web-based interlibrary loan system for faculties, research staff, administrative staff, postgraduate and final year undergraduate students to place interlibrary loan and campus document delivery requests. Free quota for obtaining articles from local and overseas sources with reciprocal agreements are available for different types of users. Users may also benefit from subsidized quota in requesting articles from other overseas libraries.
Users can submit requests online, track the status of a request online and download documents at your desktop from anywhere at anytime. Various email notifications will be sent to notifiy the progress of your requests. Please keep your email address current in your ILLiad account.
Logon
At the CUHK ILLiad Logon Page, enter the Library Card Number as printed on your CU Link card and the password that you use to View Your Library Record. Make sure you have already set up your Library Password before logging into ILLiad.
For final year undergraduate students: Do not log in ILLiad with your circulation account. You are required to apply for a separate account for interlibrary loan services. Application form can be downloaded from our library web site. Complete the form and endorse by your supervisor. Turn it in at the Interlending/Reserve Books Counter (G/F, University Library) with your student ID card for verification. You will be notified when the ILLiad account is available.

One-time Registration
First time users must complete a one-time registration before using ILLiad. Fill in the necessary information and your preferences. Remember to click the Submit Information button after you finish.

Add/Change Account Information
Users are required to enter payment method(s) for charging. At the Add/Change Account Screen, select the option(s) and enter account information when necessary. You may choose 'Within my Free Quota' at the beginning, and add more accounts later.

Departmental Approval for Charging
If you selected a department account for charging, an email seeking approval for charging will be sent to the account holder or his/her representative. Upon receipt of approval, your request will be processed.
To Change Your Information
You may change your information in ILLiad at any time. Click Change User Information under the 'Tools' Menu and edit the information as needed. Remember to click the Submit Information button after you finish.

To submit a Request
- Under the 'New Request' Menu on the left, select the appropriate request form.
- Enter the information as much as possible. The journal's ISSN is important for speeding up your request.
- Type in 'unknown' for required fields which you are not certain.
- Select an account for charging if necessary.
- Click Submit Request button to send the request.
To Input Chinese Characaters:
In Internet Explorer, under the 'View' pull down menu, set Chinese Tradional (Big 5) at Encoding for proper display of Chinese in ILLiad. Please DON'T input simplified Chinese otherwise all characters will become unreadable.

To Renew Books Online:
The Library sends Coming Due Alert for your items. You may renew your books online 2 days before the due date. Overdue items and early renewal are not allowed. The lending library will decide if an item can be renewed. Usually, overseas loans are not allowed. Upon receipt of the reply, you will be notified by email. Please write down the new due date on the green label on the book cover or bring along the email when you return the book at the Interlending/Reserve Books Counter. Books not accepted for renewal must be returned on time.
- Click Checked Out Items under the 'View' Menu on the left.
- Select the appropriate checked out item and get the details.
- Click the Renew Request link on the left above the request.

To Track the Status of a Request
- Click Outstanding Request under the 'View' Menu on the left.
- Click the appropriate link to get the tracking information of the in-process request at the bottom of the screen.

To View / Download a Document
In order to receive electronic documents, you need to choose 'Yes' for Preferred Electronic Delivery and 'E-mail' as your Preferred Notification Method during registration. You may also update your preferences by clicking Change User Information under the 'Tool' Menu on the left.
- When the PDF document is ready, you will be notified by email.
- Log on your ILLiad account. Click Electronically Received Articles under the 'View' Menu to display a list for your requests.
- Select the right request. Click the PDF icon to view or download article. (Accrobat Reader is required)
- You may delete the document after printing. Otherwise, documents will be automatically deleted from ILLiad after 14 days from the date of posting.
- If you accidentally deleted your request, you may recover the link by clicking the undelete link (highlighted as blue).

Remote AccessContact InformationEligible users can enter their Library Card Number and Library Password to log on ILLiad outside the campus network.
