When a book is checked out, users can place a hold (request) on it. Once the item is available,
users will be notified to pick it up. Please refer to the
Borrowing Privileges for the number of holds you can place.
At the web-based catalogue
- Placing a hold:
- Search the book record by title, author, call number, subject, etc.
- At the record, click " REQUEST HOLD".
- Enter your name, your Library Card Number and your PIN (password).
- Click " Submit above information ". You may need to re-enter the
PIN (password) if it is the first time you type in your password. A
PIN (password) can be up to 8 characters of lower-case alphabets and/or
numbers. You may assign any password you preferred.
- Select the desired item by clicking the circle.
- Click " REQUEST SELECTED ITEM ".
- The message that tells whether your request is successful will be shown.
You may also check if you have successfully hold a book.
- Click " START OVER " for Search the Library Catalogue.
- Click "
View Your Circulation Record ".
- After reading the special notes, click "Click here to View Your
Circulation Record".
- Enter your name, your Library Card Number and your PIN (password).
- Click " Display record for person named above ".
- Click " n Request (hold) outstanding ".
- The title, status and location of the item you held will be displayed.
- When the item is available for you, the message " READY FOR PICKUP " will be displayed.
You will also be notified by email/mail when the item is available.
- Cancelling a hold:
- Click " START OVER " for Search the Library Catalogue.
- Click "
View Your Circulation Record ".
- After reading the special notes, click " Click here to View Your
Circulation Record ".
- Enter your name, your Library Card Number and your PIN (password).
- Click " Display record for person named above ".
- Click " n Request (hold) outstanding ".
- Select the item you want to cancel the hold by clicking the
circle and click " CANCEL SELECTED ITEMS "
OR
Click " CANCEL ALL " if you want to cancel all requested items.
- The message " No holds found " or the uncancelled hold will be
displayed.
** To protect your personal information, click " START OVER "
after viewing your circulation record.
At the text-based catalogue
- Placing a hold:
- Search the book record by title, author, call number, subject, etc.
- At the record, type " G " for " Request Item ".
- If the item has more than one volume, enter the number corresponding
to the item to be requested.
- Enter your name, your Library Card Number and your PIN (password).
You may need to re-enter the PIN (password) if it is the first time you type in your password.
A PIN (password) can be up to 8 characters of lower-case alphabets and/or numbers.
You may assign any password you preferred.
- " Request recorded " will then be shown on the screen.
You may also check if you have successfully put a book on hold.
- Type " L " for " LIBRARY Catalogue ".
- Type " V " for " VIEW your circulation record ".
- Enter your name, your Library Card Number and your PIN (password).
- Type " H " for " Display Held items " and it will show everything you have put on
hold. When the item is available for you, the message " READY FOR PICKUP " will be displayed.
You will also be notified by email/mail once the item is available.
- Cancelling a hold:
- Type " V " for " VIEW your circulation record ".
- Enter your name, your Library Card Number and then your PIN (password).
- Type " H " for " Display HELD items ".
- Type " X " for " Cancel some holds ".
- Enter the number corresponding to the hold to be cancelled.
- Type " U " for " UN-DO some cancelled holds " if preferred.
Hold cannot be placed if:
- The item is NOT checked out.
- The item is already checked out by you.
- The item is a reserve book, an hourly loan item, or a multimedia
material.
- The item is a non-circulating item such as a reference book.
- You already have 3 holds placed (2 for users whose loan quota is 15 or less).
- Your loan privilege has been suspended.
