Borrowing
-
Circulating books and journals can be charged out at the Circulation Counter.
You may refer to
Borrowing Privileges for your own privileges.
Returns
-
Materials checked out by computers can be returned to any CUHK Libraries.
Non-overdue materials, except reserve materials and audiovisual
materials, may also be returned to the Book Drops located at
the University Library, Chung Chi College Library, New Asia College Library, United College
Library and Guo Mou Building in Shaw College around the clock. With
your JULAC card, books borrowed from other UGC Libraries may be returned to the
Circulation Counter of University Library before
the due-date.
Online Renewals
(How to)
-
Except for items recalled by other users, you may renew your checked
out items twice via the library catalogue. If the item you renew is already
overdue, the overdue fine will be charged to your account and can be settled
when you come to the Library.
Online Requests/Holds
(How to)
-
When a book is checked out, users can place a hold (request) on it.
Once the item is available, users will be notified to pick it up.
Please refer to the
Borrowing Privileges for the number of holds you can place.
Recalls
-
By the recall service, a user can get the item as soon as possible if
she or he put an item on hold. All books charged out for more than
two weeks are subject to recall and a recall may reduce the loan
period of an item. In the recall notice, a new due date will be
given, i.e. fourteen days from the date when the hold is placed.
This new due date will supersede the date stamped in the item. If
the material is not returned within the period, five dollars per day
will be charged on each overdue item. It is the responsibility of
the users to report the most up-to-date correspondence / email
address to the Registry / Library so that important notices from the
Library could reach them without delay.
Overdue & Losses
-
All borrowers are subject to overdue fine. The amount of which is
determined by the policy approved by the University Senate and
included in the
Regulations of the University Library System. For lost or
damaged items, the user will be charged the cost of replacement plus
processing fee.
Listing of books currently checked out by you
(How to)
-
By viewing your own circulation record, you will know the number of
books you have checked out, the status of the book you held, or the
fines you owe.
Email Library notices
-
The University Library System has been using email to send
circulation notices, including
hold pick up notices,
recall notices, and
overdue notices. All students will receive circulation notice via email
address registered in Information Technology Services Centre.
If other users want to receive your library notices by email, they may

Email notices are environmental friendly, which means no more
printed circulation notices will be sent to you. Please be reminded that
notices, printed or email, are courtesy reminders from the Library. We
believe that these notices are helpful to our users. However, it is the
responsibility of the user to return the library materials on time no
matter the notices are received or not.
