Findit@CUHK -- FAQ
|
Q. |
Can I focus my search on a certain author or within one journal title? |
| A.
|
Yes. In Advanced Scholar Search, enter keywords, author, journal name, date range, or broad subject area to do a specific search. Besides, you may use the following operators to modify your search.
|
| Q. | How do I search a specific CUHK's research paper? |
| A.
|
Put the paper's full title in quotations, e.g. "High
Carriage Rate of TT Virus in the Cervices of Pregnant Women".
This article, if found together with other papers mentioning it, will
be retrieved. Or, just entering a few words of the title with the
title operator, e.g. "intitle:tt Virus in the cervices". |
| Q. | I click on a Findit@CUHK link, but nothing happens and no window opens. Why is this? |
| A. | When you click on Findit@CUHK, your browser needs to open another
window to display Findit@CUHK information. If you are using a program that
blocks pop-up windows, you will not be able to use Findit@CUHK Links properly.
Disabling the blocking program will fix the problem. |
| Q. | I clicked on Findit@CUHK, but I only got to the journal's home page. Why? |
| A.
|
Findit@CUHK will try to get you as close as it can to the full text.
Some publishers only allow linking to the journal level. At this
point you can browse to the volume and issue number of your article.
Findit@CUHK may only take you to the table of contents or the
journal's home page, and you'll have to navigate the rest of the way. |
| Q. | I find too many papers which mention an author, can the search be more specific? |
|
A.
|
To search for specific authors, you can use "author:"
operator, e.g. author:"af cheng",
or author:"augustine f cheng". |
| Q. | I'm using Findit@CUHK Links a lot. Why do I end up with so many open windows? |
|
A.
|
Findit@CUHK Links always opens a new window for the menu, and
then a separate window for the full text or catalogue search. Be sure
to close these windows when you no longer need them. |
| Q. | What are the names shown on the left hand side of the result page used for? |
|
A.
|
Google Scholar provides a list of authors related to your query.
Click on an author's name and his/her papers from the result pages will
be retrieved. |
| Q. | What do I do when I get an error or some other "not found" message? |
|
A.
|
The article may be so recent that library-subscribed content
may not cover. It hasn't been put online yet, so Findit@CUHK
cannot retrieve it. Please report the problem to our HelpDesk. |
