Computer Room, ClassNet Connection, Wireless LAN in ULS, printing facilities, and limited copies of popular application software are provided in the libraries.

Computer Room

Library's computer room is located at 7/F TKP Building. A total of 65 servers are housed in there to provide the daily library services to the users.

  

ClassNet Connection

Users in the University Library System may access to Internet via ClassNet using VPN technology. Two connection methods are available and they may use either convention wired network or wireless LAN. Convection wired network is available in the following areas in the Libraries:

Wireless LAN in ULS

Wireless local area network (Wireless LAN) is also available in University Library System. An 11-Mbps wireless LAN has been installed in the campus. It allows a wireless (radio) connection to a local area network. The wireless LAN employs an IEEE 802.11b standard. This standard operates in a 2.4-GHz frequency band Cisco enhanced roaming features. The roaming features allow PCs connected to the wireless LAN to move from one access point to another without losing the connection. By using VPN technology, users can connect to the Internet using the laptop computer in specific areas (see the floor plan below). They must have a laptop equipped with a wireless network card and installed VPN client software. For the details of VPN setup, please visit http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/network/vpn/vpn.html.

Instruction labels are provided in the University Library System to identify the ClassNet ports and wireless LAN cover areas. Once connected, Campus-wide Email System (Mailserv) computing ID and password supplied by ITSC will be required for authentication.

Printing Facilities

Most of the workstations in CUHK libraries are connected to networked black/white laser printers.

A few standalone PCs are connected to inkjet printers.

Auto-charging system for printing service is implemented at the University Library System.

Black / white printers - HK$ 0.35 per page
