Using Facilities in Digital Scholarship Lab

This briefing session will demonstrate the use of equipment and facilities in the Digital Scholarship Lab and to introduce the software and tools available from the workstations to enable you to conduct digital scholarship research at the Lab at ease.

Introducing Digital Humanities for Study and Research

Digital humanities is a new form of research increasingly embraced by scholars in arts and humanities. This seminar will show to you:

  • Concept of digital humanities research and the research methods used
  • How to apply popular digital tools on GIS, text mining and analysis, data and network visualisation, etc. in digital humanities research
  • Examples on digital humanities research projects from worldwide to illustrate the use of research methods and tools used

Data Visualisation in Action – Gephi (Hands-on)

Introduction to R Programming and Data Analysis (Hands-on)
Invited speaker: Prof. LIANG Hai, Assistant Professor, School of Journalism and Communication, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

R is a popular software for statistical computing and programming. This seminar will introduce the differences between R for programming and R for data analysis with hands-on exercises.

This workshop will be conducted in English.
Participants are required to bring your own device with the software (installation in sequence) R ( and RStudio ( installed prior to the workshop.
