Come to learn how to enhance your research skills!  All CUHK researchers and postgraduate students are welcome to join the following research skills workshops in January and February 2020.

Program 1: Sharpening Your Research Skills

Exploring Research Information in Your Field in Multi-disciplinary Databases (I)

This workshop will demonstrate:

  • How to use ScienceDirect, IEEE Xplore, EBSCOHost and ProQuest to discover research information in your research field
  • Advanced search features in the databases
  • Multiple databases selection (where applicable)

Exploring Research Information in Your Field in Multi-disciplinary Databases (II)

This workshop will demonstrate:

  • How to use Web of Science Core Collection (Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, Arts & Humanities Citation Index, etc.) and Scopus to discover research information (journal and book articles, and conference papers) in your research field
  • How to search with topic, keywords, author, author identifier, etc.

Getting New Research Information Automatically

This workshop will demonstrate how to use Web of Science Core Collection, Scopus and ScienceDirect to set up:

  • search alerts so that the most updated search results will be sent to you automatically by email
  • citation alerts of journal articles and authors (where appropriate)
  • journal alerts (where appropriate)

Program 2: Managing Citation for Your Research

EndNote for Postgraduates and Researchers (Windows version)

This workshop will help you get started with EndNote, a bibliography management tool. It will demonstrate:

  • How to install EndNote X9 desktop program
  • How to create an EndNote online account
  • How to import references into EndNote from databases and organizing them
  • How to produce bibliographies and in-text citations in a variety of styles (e.g. MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.) for your papers
