Researcher Workshops (Jan - Apr 2020)

Date:
27/12/2019 to 02/04/2020

The following workshops are designed for researchers on research impact and research data. All CUHK researchers and postgraduates are welcome to join.

Program 1: Enhancing Your Research Impact

Author IDs - Making yourself distinguishable and discoverable on the web

An author ID is to distinguish yourself accurately in the research community from others with similar names so that your scholarly publications can be easily recognized.

This workshop will demonstrate:

  • What are ORCID iD, Publon, Scopus Author Profile, and Google Scholar Profile
  • How to record your research activities such as your publications and presentations in these systems
  • How to transfer information from these systems to AIMS

Date and Time: 17 Jan (Fri) 3:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Venue: Webinar
Registration: Click here to register

Using ORCID iD to Raise Your Research Profile

An ORCID iD is a persistent digital identifier to disambiguate yourself in the research community so that you can be identified uniquely in the sea of researchers and your research profile can be raised.

This workshop can help you to:

  • Understand the benefit of having an ORCID iD
  • Register for an ORCID iD
  • Manage your research outputs in ORCID iD
  • Link up your ORCID iD to AIMS and Publon, and Scopus Author Profile

Date and Time: 17 Jan (Fri) 4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Venue: Webinar

Program 2: Managing Your Research Data

Using ATLAS.ti for Qualitative Data Analysis

This workshop will introduce how to use ATLAS.ti to conduct qualitative data analysis. Participants will learn how to use ATLAS.ti to conduct:

  • Data description, such as creating codes, coding, using memo, and writing comments on your data
  • Data analysis and interpretation such as using the functions of hyperlink, network view, query tool, and co-occurrence to explore patterns and develop themes

Date and Time: 10 Mar (Tue) 3:00 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.

Discovering and Reusing Research Data: Data Citation

More and more academic journals require submitting original research data together with your research paper. This workshop is to assist you to understand data citation, different data repositories available, the use of correct data citation format and style, and introduce some datasets you can use for your research.

Date and Time: 19 Mar (Thu) 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Introduction to Research Data Management Plan

A research data management plan (DMP) is a written document that outlines how research data are acquired, managed, described, analyzed, stored, preserved, and shared. Some funding agencies require researchers to prepare a DMP at the proposal preparation stage. This workshop introduces the rationale of having a DMP, the tools for preparing a DMP, and the practice of creating and managing a DMP.

Date and Time: 24 Mar (Tue) 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Venue: Webinar

Effective Management of Your Research Data

Research data is the core of any research. More and more funding agencies and publishers recently require researchers to manage and share their research data.

This workshop is to show to you:

  • The increasing importance of research data management to researchers
  • Overview of research data lifecycle
  • Strategies for documenting, organizing, and sharing research data
  • Ethical issues and rights relating to research data
