    In the academy, we assume that I as a subject is distant and excluded from the marginalized other. The social constructed other sometimes is stigmatized and labeled by religions. Locating at the centre, I still have a dynamic relationship with the other, which is marginalized at the border. Suggested by post-structural and post-modern theories, both I-subject and the Other-object are in-process and destabilizing.

    CUHK Golden Jubilee Celestial Civilian Scholarship on Hong Kong Literature 2018/19

    CUHK Golden Jubilee Celestial Civilian Scholarship on Hong Kong Literature 2018/19 is now inviting applications from full-time CUHK students taking undergraduate or research postgraduate programmes. There will be two scholarships of HK$10,000 each. Applicants must submit a research paper / thesis / dissertation, written in either English or Chinese, on Hong Kong literature and related fields, and submit a statement of 500-800 words, written in either English or Chinese, on how they made use of the Hong Kong Literature Collection for their research paper / thesis / dissertation.

    Designing a Successful Oral Defence

    This workshop for postgraduate students is designed to prepare participants for their oral defence. It familiarizes them with the common structure and expected content of the defence, public persona design, and management of self-presentation. Participants will be introduced to principles of presentation n and notions of persona. Praxis sessions are expected to have each presenter design selected segments of the defence.

    Revision Strategies for Research Papers: The Introduction

    The introduction of a research paper is generally short, but it is rhetorically complex. Therefore, it needs to be constructed carefully so that it leads readers to an understanding of what the paper is about and why it should be read. The talk focuses on specific revision strategies for research paper introductions and exercises for participants to learn these strategies and apply them to their writing.

    The Hong Kong Literature Research Centre and CUHK Library is co-organizing the second Digital Scholarship Symposium , titled “(Re-)Mining Text: From Traditional to Digital” on 19 March 2019 (Tuesday) . This Symposium aims to explore the techniques and applications of text mining in the new era. Researchers mine text in a microscopic way using traditional research methods.     香港地名研究雜談

    黃垤華先生,香港史地研究者,家中藏書頗豐,歷年走遍香港大小山川名勝,訪村老、探漁父、謁寺廟、尋碑刻,搜集各地地名,以記本土歷史風物,並披覽古今輿圖典籍,勘正其田野考察所得,尤精於香港地名研究。

    黃先生將在講座中分享其香港地名研究心得,闡述探索香港地名之必需工具,包括參考書籍及地圖等,並展示其私人珍藏,配合講述,甚屬罕見;復舉例說明若干地名之研究成果,如赤柱蛇山(龜山)、中門(中環、上環、下環)、煙墩山(筆架山)等,實為研究香港歷史的重要一環。

    黃垤華,字岱峰,一九三三年出生於香港,祖籍廣東南海,自幼居港,平素致力中國古籍目錄學研究,並旁及香港史地研究超越六十年之久,經常到訪各區,每至必采風問俗,並為筆錄。著有《三龍口傳說所涉諸島地理輯釋》及《香港山嶺志》,另有《香港輿地山川志備攷》、《香江方輿稽原略》、《香港水域航行脞錄》、《香島地名錄存》、《大嶼山志補編》、《粵大記輿圖考略》及《師堯堂藏書錄》等十多種著述待刊。

The awarded websites of CUHK Library included CUHK Library, University Gallery, CUHK Library Digital Scholarship Projects Site and CUHK Digital Repository. The scheme is jointly organised by Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited, the Office of Government Chief Information Officer and the Equal Opportunities Commission.
