Mr Mou Tsung-San taught at universities such as Huaxi, National Central, Jinling, and Zhejiang, focusing on logic and Western culture. He served as editor-in-chief of the magazines History and Culture and Regeneration. In the 1960s, Mou joined New Asia College at CUHK as a chairman of the Department of Philosophy.
Mou was a master of contemporary Neo-Confucianism, with deep knowledge of both Eastern and Western philosophy and a commitment to mutual interpretation. He was particularly adept at Kantian philosophy, with works such as Critique of the Cognitive Mind and Kant’s Moral Philosophy, and he also independently translated Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason and Kant’s Critique of Judgment. He was well-versed in the three major schools of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, and wrote works such as Talent and Profundity, The Nature of Buddha and Prajna, and Mind and Nature.
