East and West – European Language Rare Books at CUHK Library
Published on 08/08/2022
Special Collections at the Chinese University of Hong Kong Library has a small but important collection of European rare books with particular strengths in the history of medicine, architecture and China-Western relations. The collection ranges linguistically from Latin to early modern English, and geographically from Venice to Glasgow in terms of place of publication. Of particular interest are the books related to the Jesuit missions in China (such as the Novus Atlas Sinensis) and several incunables (i.e. the oldest printed books from before 1501).
We are delighted to have Professor Stuart McManus from the History Department to introduce some important western rare books to our collection.
