Job Hunting and Further Studies Series (Oct-Nov 2024)

A “Personal Statement” is an important vehicle through which you introduce yourself to a third party for a specific purpose – enrolling in a graduate school, applying for a scholarship, etc. This workshop aims at introducing the skills to write good Personal Statements for academic purposes. It will also introduce how university rankings work and resources available at the Library to prepare for IELTS and other graduate school standardized tests.

An overview of the Joint Recruitment Examination (English Section) will be given. To help you familiarize with the text types in the test, you will be guided to examine the purpose, structure, and language of common government documents.

Participants will practice writing under examination condition based on the materials prepared by the ILC which include tables, figures, and statistical information related to a current issue. To make the best use of this practice opportunity, participants are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to take the preparation workshop “Tips and Strategies in Tackling the JRE” first.

Note: The JRE (Joint Recruitment Examination) is a civil service examination of the HK SAR Government.
