Statement:
Soft clouds gliding over the college chapel, an Old Banyan and her intertwining roots, a mountainous rock standing firm in the summer heat… these are but some of the scenes captured by Dr. Buda K. Y. Leung. Over a stretch of thirty years, he has been chronicling life on campus, resulting in a culmination of watercolour sketches that exuberate life, strength and vitality. Sketching for Leung has the potential to strengthen the “truth” and “beauty” of things. Yielding a strong sense of people, place and time, the resulting works transport us to a reenactment along the time-space continuum. Between the soft washes of colours is an underlying narrative unique to each and everyone of us. What is created is not just an imitation of a scene, but a refinement of reality. Whether it is the tenacious spirit of rocks and trees, or the starkness and majesty of buildings and architecture, within each work there is a story of strength and growth, beaming with life and vitality.
