The responsibility of returning library materials on time lies with the borrower. Overdue items accrue the following fines as stipulated in the Regulations of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Library:

Borrowers who return books damaged beyond repair will be charged the cost of replacement in addition to the processing cost of HK$100.00 and any accumulated fines. Damaged books and marked pages should be reported at the Service Counter as soon as noticed.
Items on loan should not be taken outside Hong Kong. Items that are not returned or renewed within 42 days of their due date are automatically marked with a “billed” status and treated as lost. The borrower of a lost item will be charged the cost of replacement in addition to the processing cost of HK$100.00 and any accumulated fines.
