Series: Digital Scholarship and Research Data Workshops (Feb-Apr 2026)

Invited speakers: Mr. Steve LAU, GIS Specialist, Geospatial Lab

This workshop offers hands-on training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), with a focus on practical applications using cloud-based tools. It covers foundational spatial data concepts, core GIS principles, and sourcing open data from Hong Kong’s Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI) portal.

Participants will learn to perform site selection analysis in ArcGIS Online using real Hong Kong open datasets, following the basic GIS workflow: data collection, processing, visualisation, querying, and sharing results through maps and presentations. The workshop emphasises real-world tasks like suitability modelling and interactive mapping to support decision-making in urban planning or smart city projects.

Remarks:
Participants will need to bring their own device for hands-on practice.
