Open Science represents a foundational shift in the global research landscape, aiming to make scientific knowledge across all disciplines transparent, reproducible, and freely accessible to everyone.

Open Science is a framework of principles and practices designed to make scientific research across all fields openly accessible, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable for the benefit of both scientists and society. Guided by the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science, it aims to democratize knowledge creation and communication by breaking down barriers between the traditional scientific community and the public, increasing international collaboration, and providing multilingual scientific knowledge that is freely reusable. While it advocates for research to be “as open as possible” to solve complex global challenges, it also respects necessary restrictions to protect human rights, confidentiality, intellectual property, and sacred indigenous knowledge.

The Open Science team is dedicated to empowering researchers, educators, and students at CUHK in adopting these collaborative practices throughout the entire research lifecycle. We provide the infrastructure, strategic guidance, and platforms necessary to transition towards a completely open and transparent academic culture.
