From Data to Dashboard – Interactive Visualization for Everyone (Pre-hackathon Workshop)
CUHK Data Hack 2026 Pre-hackathon Workshop
Instructor: Mr. Wikie CHAN, Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research, CUHK
Are you preparing for the upcoming Data Hack, or simply looking to upgrade your data storytelling skills? Join us for a 3-hour hands-on workshop designed for everyone—whether you are a computer science major or a humanities student.
Data analytics isn’t just for scientists; it’s about telling a story with information. In this session, we will introduce you to Streamlit, an open-source framework used by top data science groups at companies like Uber and Google X.
Why this workshop is for you:
- No Web Development Skills Needed: Streamlit handles the heavy lifting. You don’t need to know HTML, CSS, or JavaScript to build beautiful apps.
- Coding Made Simple: We will demonstrate how Streamlit is declarative. This means adding interactive widgets (like sliders or charts) is as easy as giving an instruction. You focus entirely on your data and logic, not on complex code or pixel-perfect alignment.
- Instant Results: See your work update automatically as you code. By the end of the session, you will have built and deployed your own interactive dashboard from scratch.
By the end of this workshop, you will build and deploy your own interactive dashboard—a skill that will give you a competitive edge in the upcoming challenge and your future career.
Prerequisites: Basic familiarity with Python is helpful but not compulsory. No web development skills are needed.
