New platform for Hong Kong and Macau Index to Chinese Periodicals

Index to Chinese Periodicals of Hong Kong (HKInChiP) was developed and made available for public use by the Chinese University of Hong Kong Library in 1999. The University of Macau Library joined this initiative in 2005, contributing data on Chinese journals published in Macau. Subsequently, the two libraries collaborated to launch the “Hong Kong Macau Periodicals Network” in September 2006 and the platform was renamed as the Hong Kong and Macau Index to Chinese Periodicals (Index) in 2025.

The Index primarily includes Chinese and bilingual journals published in Hong Kong and Macau, with a focus on humanities and social sciences. Most of the journals are indexed from 1980 onwards. The earliest periodical featured in the Index is Chinese Serial (published on 1 August 1853) which is the first Chinese journal in Hong Kong.

In addition to various basic search functions, the Index also provides links to full-text images of certain articles for teaching and academic research purposes. Please click here to access the database.
