Lotus seeds are able to alleviate tension, restore mental wellness, and tackle insomnia. Yet, I could not fall asleep even after bowls of sweet lotus seed soup. No amount of lotus seeds can cease the thoughts about tomorrow in the middle of the night.

It has been a year since the passing of Professor Sir Charles Kao, former Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Nobel Prize Laureate. In memory of the “Father of Fibre Optics”, the Charles K. Kao Foundation for Alzheimer’s Disease has organised a roving exhibition “Remembering Charles” to highlight Professor Kao’s lifetime achievements and outstanding contribution, and showcase his artwork produced during his treatment by art therapy from 2013 to 2018. University Library is the last stop of the exhibition. Details as follows:

NVivo 12: A Tool for Data Coding and Conceptual Building
The foundation workshop on NVivo 12 will introduce key features for researchers conducting qualitative research. You will learn importing files, organizing files in folders, approaches in coding (theories in use or grounded theory), and coding techniques and strategies. Participants will learn the process of coding while building an understanding how evidence can be gathered from the cyclical circle for confirming the existing conceptual framework or building a new model for further analysis.

The Learning Garden has been closed during the summer for refurbishment and renovations. It will open on 3 September 2019 (Tuesday). To complete refurbishment works, the opening hours of the Learning Garden will be the same as the University Library from 3 to 8 September 2019.

The 2/F has been renovated to house the significant music and audio visual collection of over 110,000 items.
